Would you like to travel with your leisure vehicle in winter? Here are some tips on how to make your winter holiday a complete success!
Tips for an unforgettable journey
Before you start your journey, you should winterise your motorhome or Camper Van. You can find all the information and a practical checklist in this article: How do you winterise your motorhome? This means that you and your vehicle are ideally prepared for travelling in winter.
These tips will also help you get the most out of your trip:
- Book your pitch in good time, as good winter campsites are fully booked early.
- Do not start without winter tyres.
- Take snow chains with you and be equipped for every situation.
- Select a suitable parking space and pay attention to the surface, as snow and ice can thaw.
- After selecting a seat, release the parking brake to prevent freezing.
- Ensure that snow banks do not cover installed forced ventilation systems.
- Keep the built-in forced ventilation systems free of snow and ice.
- Ensure good air circulation, as good air circulation prevents moisture and makes the living area easier to heat.
- Cover the single-glazed cab windows with insulating mats to avoid thermal bridges. You can find suitable insulating covers at Carado original accessories here: Insulation for your Carado vehicle
- For the gas system, use a two-cylinder system with automatic changeover so that the supply does not run out during the night.
- Only operate the gas system with propane gas.
- Do not use the space behind the heater as a storage compartment.
- Do not operate catalytic ovens and infrared gas radiators inside the vehicle, as they extract oxygen from the interior for combustion.
- Lay the 230 V supply cable of the cable reel in such a way that the cable cannot freeze or be damaged (e.g. when clearing snow).
- If it snows heavily, regularly remove snow from the roof of the vehicle. A few centimetres of powder snow provide insulation, but wet snow quickly becomes a load weighing several tonnes.
- Clear the roof of snow before each journey so as not to obstruct other vehicles.
- Keep an eye on the weather and check the weather forecast regularly if necessary.
