The sun's rays gently warm the skin and the temperatures rise - just the thing to make campers' hearts beat faster! After the winter break, it makes sense to carry out a thorough spring check so that your motorhome can start the new season safely and reliably. In addition to cleaning, technology, safety and functional checks are also important points.
We have put together some helpful tips for you on how to get your motorhome back in shape after hibernation. This makes the first journey relaxed and enjoyable.
1. Exterior cleaning and visual inspection
First remove dirt, road salt and deposits from the winter. A thorough exterior wash protects the paintwork and materials and helps to recognise damage at an early stage.
Also check this:
- Roof and underbody for dirt or damage
- Wheel arch covers and load-bearing parts for rust
- Windows, seals and awnings for function and damage
Important: Use suitable cleaning agents and avoid excessive water pressure in sensitive areas.
2. Clean and check the interior
Ventilate the motorhome thoroughly after it has been parked and check for moisture or mould. This is followed by interior cleaning:
- Vacuuming upholstery, mattresses and carpets
- Clean surfaces, kitchen, bathroom and refrigerator
- Check storage compartments for moisture
- Fully open windows and doors for ventilation
This ensures that your motorhome is hygienic and ready to go. We know that this is not necessarily a fun job. The result, however, is a clean motorhome in which you feel completely at ease.
3. Technical and safety check
Are the main inspection, gas test and leakage test still valid? The latter is also important if the tightness guarantee has expired. All important systems should be checked before the first journey:
- General inspection (HU) and gas test
- Leakage test (also important after warranty)
- Engine oil, brake fluid and wiper fluid
- Battery
- Lighting, brakes and tyres
Specialist workshops check the basic functions and change the oil if necessary.
4. Water, gas and tank systems
The supply systems also need attention:
- Insulated and heated fresh water and waste water tank
- Check pipes for frost damage or leaks
- Check gas system for leaks
- Test water pump and fittings
Conclusion
A thorough spring check ensures safety, comfort and a smooth start to the camping season. So nothing stands in the way of your first holiday - we wish you a pleasant journey!
