To ensure that the windows in the motorhome remain clear for a long time and are not damaged, it is important to clean them properly and care for them properly. Below you will find helpful tips - especially for the sensitive acrylic glass windows in your camping vehicle.
How to clean motorhome windows properly.
1. Always rinse off coarse dirt first.
Dust, sand and insect remains act like sandpaper. Therefore, rinse windows with clear water or soak them with plenty of water before wiping.
2. Gentle cleaning - no glass cleaner. Motorhome windows are almost always made of acrylic glass (Plexiglass).
The following applies: Lukewarm water, a splash of mild washing-up liquid, soft microfibre cloth or sponge
Unsuitable (causes blind spots & cracks): Alcohol, spirits, ammonia, household or glass cleaners, scouring milk, scouring sponges, high-pressure cleaners at close range.
Note: Please follow the care instructions in the operating instructions. Cleaners must always be approved by the manufacturer for acrylic glass.
3. Dry gently
Wipe with a clean microfibre cloth and do not polish dry if dust is still present.
4. Use special care for acrylic glass
Acrylic glass or plastic care: closes fine pores, reduces new soiling and protects against yellowing caused by UV radiation.
Usage: Apply to a clean, dry window, spread thinly and wipe with a soft cloth.
5. Don't forget to treat rubber seals
1-2× per year with rubber care stick or silicone care, this keeps the seals soft, prevents creaking, leaks and sticking windows.
Note: Deer tallow is recommended for the care of the seals; here too, it is necessary to clarify with the manufacturer in advance whether this is permissible for acrylic glass.
Typical mistakes you should avoid
Wipe windows dry
Use paper towels or kitchen roll
Clean in direct sunlight (cleaning agent dries too quickly)
Using an ice scraper in winter
